This Oscar nominated animation is wonderful. You should see it because of its music (jazz and Latin American), because it is original and visually beautiful and because it is about a classic-film-like old-fashioned love story.
Chico is a talented retired piano player who recalls his impossible love with a jazz singer named Rita. Their love affair is turbulent and the film follows it over the years. Because it all takes place in Cuba, in the years before and the years after the revolution, the story also follows this country’s history. And because it is about love and music, it unavoidably takes the viewer through the history of jazz.
